Flavours of Maharashtra at Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel

Lake View Café, Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel is hosting the Maharashtrian Food Festival, from 22nd July to 30th July 2017.
The culinary team at Renaissance is presenting an assortment of the best dishes from the different regions of Maharashtra with crowd favourites such as like Mutton Kolhapuri Taambda rassaMutton Kolhapuri Pandhra rassa, Varhadi rassa, Batatyachi bhajiAmti, Vangyache bharit, and many more options for both vegetarians and non-vegetarians alike. The fare has a few unique dishes such as Fansachi Bhaji, Palakchi Takatli Bhaji, leaving the guests an opportunity to explore the wide range the cuisine of the region has to offer. The dessert menu also features traditional dishes such as Puran Poli, Basundi and Shrikhand, among other traditional desserts.

Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel is one of the best kept properties in Mumbai. With its location right on the banks of Powai Lake and with sprawling lush green all around, the venue is just right for some hearty, wholesome Maharashtrian food. While most of us are familiar with the cuisine and might have a “but it’s found everywhere” reaction to a festival celebrating Maharashtrian cuisine, it is this very familiarity which makes the palate discerning and one knows a class act when there is one – and this one is definitely a classy one full of tastes which are rich in authenticity and variety.

I was introduced to a few beautifully dressed ladies who had prepared the masala by hand in the hotel kitchen and would be doing so every evening. It would only be fair to say that the wonderful tastes and flavours owe a great deal to the effort and heart put in by these ladies who have travelled to Mumbai from interior Maharashtra to give the commercial kitchen at Renaissance the much desired home-kitchen touch.

The tastes packed a punch and the staff keeps the tongue cool with some cool Kokum sharbat and Sol kadi. The overall experience is one of true blue Maharashtian food in the lap of luxury.

What I loved: The table amenities for a start – very elaborate with a little tiffin box of chakli and shankarpara, bhel, shrikhand, koshimbir and pickles and thecha and plenty more, all in nice earthen serving bowls. Also loved the variety of the spread with its abundance of vegetables and fish and chicken and mutton and prawns and crabs – you name it and it’s there! The hospitality was, as expected, exemplary.

What I missed: Traditional music and decor from Maharashtra to add to the ambiance.

Speaking about the Maharashtrian Food Festival, Chef Sahil Arora, Executive Chef- Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel said, “Through the Flavours of Mahrashtra Festival we aim to provide our patrons with a variety of dishes from Maharashtra which our generally not available in the restaurants.
We hope to provide a simple yet tasteful affair for our guests at the hotel.”
