Chesney Hawkes

Around 50,000 singles were released in the UK during the nineties. With five weeks at the top, the twentieth most successful release of that entire decade was 1991’s ‘The One and Only’, sung by a 19 year old Chesney Hawkes. 25 years on, the song has been on countless compilation albums, TV ads, TV theme music, film soundtracks and continues to top ‘Best pop song of the nineties’ polls.

Chesney has been touring continuously since 2001, and has clocked up over 1,000 gigs He is also nearing completion of his autobiography entitled ‘Who I Really Am’, a title taken of course from the ‘The One and Only’.

No Mercy

In 1995, whilst living in Germany, a trio of Americans formed the band No Mercy and released a cover version of ‘Missing’ by Everything but the Girl. This was shortly followed by their debut album, My Promise,(renamed ‘No Mercy’ a week later in the US) containing the massively popular singles Where Do You Go and ‘When I Die’. The album went top five across Europe, and achieved double platinum sales as far as Australia. To date, the band has sold over 10 million recordings worldwide.

Lead singer and founder of the band, Marty Cintron continues to tour as No Mercy. His passion for music has enabled him to survive over the decades, using his extraordinary guitar skills and soulful voice. Marty now lives in Miami, recording new music and continuing to tour the world as No Mercy.

Rozalla

Rozalla’s singing career really took off when the dance anthem ‘Everybody’s Free (To Feel Good)’ reached number 6 in the UK Singles Chart in 1991. It became a Top 10 hit in many European countries soon afterwards and reached the Billboard Top 40 the following year. It was later included on her dance-heavy debut album Everybody’s Free, which spawned two more sizeable hits in ‘Faith (In the Power of Love)’ and ‘Are You Ready to Fly’. ‘Everybody’s Free’ remains Rozalla’s biggest hit and has been remixed and re-released many times.

In 1992, Rozalla toured with Michael Jackson, opening all of his performances on the European leg of his Dangerous tour. She enjoyed four UK Top 40 hits in 1994/95, including her cover of “I Love Music”, the theme song to the film Carlito’s Way.
