Sky Lounge, The Royal Plaza, CP, Delhi: Best Lutyen’s View

_DSC0002As a famous advertisement says, there are things money can’t buy but for everything else there is MasterCard. If you are looking for the best view in Lutyen’s Delhi with comfortable seating, nice and peppy music and excellent cocktails, this is one post you must read. My only wish is that they also have the food to embellish the entire experience.

_DSC0004Spreading over 22,000 sq ft and located on the 19th Floor of Royal Plaza Hotel, Sky Lounge Bar and Grill gives a serene and lovely, panoramic 360 degree view of the city with key highlights including Jantar Mantar, Lotus Temple, India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan and Qutub Minar.

Gold plated hookahThe swanky and chic setting is bound to attract youngsters while the mist fans at such a height ensure a comfortable temperature even in the month of May. The gold plated sheesha (hookah) and the menu dishes that have been named with an astronomical theme shows the detailing and thought that has gone behind bringing up this place.

Nachos with SalsaI start with a cocktail – Whiskey 96 – that is a potent cocktail with Jack Daniel, Campari and Martini Rosso. The accompanying Nachos with Salsa are a bunch of readymade nachos with some cheese and veggies on top. As one digs in, there are only the nachos underneath and cheese and veggies are missing. The salsa is a tad dry too. The few other cocktails (Whisky Sour and Rusty Nail) that I try are again well made and clearly shows the proficiency of the bar manager.

Bhuna GhoshtThe Grilled Prawns are nice but for such a beautiful place, the plating lacks imagination. The Seekh Kebabs that are served are neither the kakori nor the seekh kebab but a variation in between given its texture. Dahi Kebabs are a bit dry again and not amongst the better ones I have had. My favourite is the Crispy Fried Chicken with bites coming from the cornflakes coating and the soft chicken inside complementing the dish. These are a few things one should definitely try here. One must also try the Bhuna Ghosht in the main course.

The charm of enjoying drinks at such a height with a lovely overview of Central Delhi will definitely pull me back here. I would also love to plan a dance party here where the focus will be on the music, ambience and drinks as food generally takes a back seat at such events.
