Dana Choga Kebabri, Gurgaon

[Rated: 3.5/5]
The 12 year old family-run restaurant has three outlets- all named Dana Choga. The chain also has a fourth outlet, the Dana Choga Kebabri specialises in Kebabs. Among the hordes of North Indian restaurants and eateries in Gurgaon, the Dana Choga turned out to be good value for money.
There was nothing special about the small 22-seater restaurant, but it was comfortable for an informal family meal. The air-conditioning was nice and the pastel colors on the walls were soothing. This small chain is a welcome breather in Gurgaon which is spoilt for choices for expensive fine dine, food court in the malls, or road side ‘Aahatas’ but not many in its category.

We had one of the best Mutton Kathi Roll (Rs 100), Paneer Kathi Roll (Rs 90) and the Murg Garlic Tikka (Rs 210) each succulent, juicy, flavorful and soft. The rolls were tastier and lighter than what you get at the place of its origin- Kolkatta. The Dal Makhani (Rs 125) and Tandoori Stuffed Potatoes (Rs 125) were nice, though I missed the bite in Gosht Burrah Kebab (Rs 210) and Paneer Malai Seekh Kebab (Rs 145). We also tried the Murg Makhmali Tikka (Rs 210), Murg Kebab Masala (Rs215) and Paneer Adrak Hara Dhaniya (Rs140)- all the dishes were average. There weren’t too many options in desserts section; we opted for the Kulfi (Rs50) and enjoyed it.

The innovative fragrant Paan sans the katha and gulkhand was served complimentary at end of the meal. The Paan was tasty and served as a great mouth freshener; post the garlic spiced food. Some of us may miss the end-of-meal finger bowl at Dana Choga Kebabri.
The good-sized portions with pocket-friendly prices make it a preferred dine-in and home delivery preferred option for Gurgaon-ites. It was no surprise to learn that 80% of their business is through home delivery offered through their fleet of 35 scooters.
And yes, I am already missing those delicious Kathi Rolls.
