La buona cucinar ende allegri – Laughter is brightest where food is best

You wake up in the morning and you feel it in your bones. It is going to be that sort of day; when sun will shine but not too scorchingly, breeze will flow but not too strongly, time will pass but not betray, friends will call and foes desist, your adolescent son will smile and say “love you’ without a motive, your husband will call promptly from a business trip lest you worry and food served will be so good that your stomach would be full and your heart will yearn for more. My Italian Sunday brunch was one such idyllic day when it made you smile just to be alive. The service staff, the Market Relations Manager Deepika Sinha and the Sous Chef Rajiv Das played gracious hosts to us that Sunday to make it a leisurely but memorable afternoon.

Cucumber and Basil Bramble
Cucumber and Basil Bramble

On recommendation, I tried the Cucumber and Basil Bramble. Made with cucumber juice, muddled basil, lime, sugar and Bacardi, I can safely say that it was indeed one of the best cocktails I have had in the longest time. The other cocktail, Orange Delight, was not much to write about though. The soups on offer were Tomato Soup and Chicken Soup; both wholesome and filling. The salad and cheese counter was extensive. I must specially mention their superbly fresh salads such as pumpkin walnut and feta salad, ham and sweet potato salad and the calamari and fennel salad.

Progressing to the main course, we first had the Roasted Leg Of Lamb With Red Wine Jus. It was pure melt-in-your-mouth flavourful goodness. Next, we tried the Pan Seared Red Snapper With Fennel Cream Sauce. The fish was a little overdone and the sauce may have done with a little more oomph – it sort of fell bland on the fish. The Mustard Chicken With Honey Glaze, though a common dish, was a delight in execution and we loved its flavours.  Whenever gorging on carnivorous goodness such as these, it is rare that I try vegetarian dishes but on this occasion, upon the Chef’s suggestion, I tried the Vegetable Lasagna and Pasta In White Sauce and I must say that had I been adamant, I would have missed a treat. Both the dishes were flavourful and did justice to the omission of the proteins. The last dish we had from their repertoire was the Peperoni Pizza, a dish they are quite known for – and I must say it was a revelation. If I have to, I would go this restaurant just for this pizza.

By the way, they will be changing the menu every Sunday to bring in the largest variety of dishes.

The restaurant is known for its desserts and just the wide array set my heartbeat racing and my eyes twinkling. On recommendation, I tried the Zeppole; soft, creamy, oozing treasures. The Berry Panna Cotta was soft and firm. The Ricotta Mango Cheesecake was an indulgence in pure sin. But what I can say brought my sheer gluttony to the fore was the Tiramisu. They say it is their pride and I say their pride is definitely not misplaced.
