On my first ever trip to Meerut 9 years ago, I was introduced to assorted Pakodas at Hotel Gang Naher which is located midway between Muradnagar and Modinagar. I haven’t missed a quick bite here on my 20+ visits to Meerut and back to Delhi, since.
Hot, soft, lavishly sprinkled with masala and served with tangy mint chutney makes up for hearty stop over at this joint, which is nestled atop a flyover next to canal which is an offshoot from Ganga at Haridwar. Hence, the name ‘Hotel Gang Naher’.
Their Paneer Pakodas are the one of the best in that area though some of the new joints like Jains Shikanji who also sells pakoras, gives it a tough challenge. The Paneer used is as soft as they come and the crisp batter on the outside makes up for a mouthful of a Pakoda treat. Other variety of Pakodas include that of Spinach, Potato, Chili, Daal, Onion, Aubergine and Cauliflower.
A plate of Paneer Pakoda of 250 gms (12-15 pieces cut from 3 large Pakodas) cost Rs.70, while mix Pakoda (250 gms) will set you off with Rs50 or Rs60 depending if you also take paneer pakora in the mix platter.
I have seen this place grow from literally a shack to now a fully covered roadside dhaba, serving all types of snacks but not meals. You get all the usual stuff like Pao Bhaji, Burger, Kulche chole, Kulfi etc. But I only go for Pakodas…Always! You also get Ginger Tea freshly made on another counter, which completes the Pakoda gourmet experience here.
Highly recommended for a brief stopover en route to Meerut or Delhi, depending upon which way are you headed 🙂
