Muringapu Thoran/Drumstick Flower Stir Fry {Recipe}

The Muringapu or the Muringa flower is the flower of the Moringa Tree which is believed to be one of the most useful and 1969248_516007798504616_3183280508508400738_nnutritious trees in the world.They are approximately one inch in diameter and of creamy white colour with a mushroom like taste when cooked.The flowers contain a fair amount of both calcium and potassium with a provision for nectar as well.

The flowers are also used for food and in healing.The therapeutic uses of the flowers involve the juice which improves the quality and flow of mothers’ milk when breast feeding, encourages urination and is a powerful remedy for cold when the flowers are boiled in water.

Recipe:

Ingredients:
Drumstick flower, As much as you might have picked.
Grated Coconut, 1/2 the quantity of the flower.
Shallots, a handful
Bird’s eye chilies or green chilies, to taste
Curry leaves (Optional)
Salt
Mustard seeds
Coconut Oil for frying

Method:
Coarsely grind the coconut, shallots, green chilies and curry leaves.

Crackle mustard seeds in a pan and toss in the coarsely ground mixture. Saute.

Add the drumstick flowers and saute till done.
