Chakka Kuru Mezhukupurati/Jackfruit Seeds Stir Fry {Recipe}

The Malayalam word “Chakka” is said to have been recorded by the Portuguese when they arrived in Kozhikode(Calicut) in 1498.
The word we know today as jackfruit has been derived from the Portuguese word “jaca” which in turn comes from the Malayalam word “Chakka”.10258884_515972285174834_2734910674404723882_n
Kuru is the Malayalam word for seeds.
Chakka Kuru is nothing but the seeds of the jackfruit.

Recipe:

Ingredients:
Jackfruit seeds, 200gms,Cut into 1-11/2″ in length
Coconut Pieces, a handful
Readymade Kerala Masala Powder(Meat Masala), 1 Tbsp
Turmeric, 1/2 tsp
Shallots, 6 medium,finely sliced into rings
Curry leaves, 2 stems
Mustard seeds, 1 Tsp
Coconut Oil, 2-3 Tbsp
Salt, to taste

Method:
In a cooking pot or vessel, boil the jack fruit seeds, coconut pieces, masala powder, turmeric and salt.

In another vessel, crackle the mustard seeds and saute the shallots and curry leaves.

Add the boiled seeds to the above and stir fry.

Note:
~While sauteing, along with the curry leaves sometimes dry red chillies, cut into 3-4 pieces,are also added.
