K3 Al Fresco, JW Marriott, New Delhi: A Place for Romantic Evening

This has indeed been a good start for my first review of the year. K3 Al Fresco is the temporary outdoor seating outside the K3 restaurant at JW Marriott, Aerocity  which is perfect for a romantic winter evening  and is open only till mid February. This 36-seater restaurant also offers 3 gazebo’s that could be hired for private partying. The gazebos are surrounded by water and fire playing alongside. My friend and I chose to sit at one of the tables close to the grill counter. The open sky with soft music playing in the background is ideal for a non rushed relaxed evening. The tower heaters placed close to the tables make one more comfortable in Delhi’s extreme cold.

Since my friend had a bad throat, he chose to have rum based hot toddy. Mixed with some ground spices, he found it to be very soothing to the throat, while I went with Sangiovese.

Goat cheese tart is our first starter for the evening. The warm cheese compliments the wafer like tart and it is combined with caramelised walnut and caramelised onion in apple juice that brings out the flavour well. Seared King scallop has soft fleshy texture with delicately mild sweet flavour teamed with Zucchini salsa and creme fraiche was a treat for our senses.

For the main course since i don’t eat red meat, my friend ordered the Black Cod and Sea Bass platters from the grill menu. All the main course grills are accompanied with complimentary soup, and the dessert platter.

The luxurious, succulent Black cod was first seared and then grilled to give it a crisp coating. Served with soft gooey mashed potato, buttery spinach and crisp asparagus this certainly was the best dish of the evening. I just couldn’t resist cleaning up the platter till the last bite. It was served with a sauce which was hardly required as the fish and accompaniments by itself were tasting so well.

Norwegian Sea bass is moist and flaky and its buttery texture makes every bite melt in the mouth. Here again the fish is seared and then grilled. It is served with a lettuce salad and beurre blanc (white butter sauce). The carrot on the platter deserves a special mention for the way it was perfectly steamed and flavoured. From one delicious fish to another, we simply relished it.

The complimentary dessert platter was the Flourless Chocolate Cake and the Orange Creme Brulee. A must have.

The interval between each dish was relatively long but given the ambience we didn’t mind the wait and enjoyed our conversation. The warmth and hospitality of the staff added to the experience. Executive Sous Chef Ishika Konar is very passionate and it reflected in each of her dishes that she was taking pains to personally cook for all the guests. Good things don’t last too long and so the deliciously beautiful evening ends. The place is open till Mid Feb and has a limited but well selected menu. With dishes priced between Rs1000 to Rs3500 (incl soup and desserts), it seems an ideal venue for all the Valentine couples looking for a great place.
