Taste Case – A Subscription box service by ShopHop

ContentsThe other day I received this mail from Suprio about trying out a “Taste Case” – a subscription box from ShopHop. Till than I had no idea of ShopHop and what they are all about. The introduction read: “ShopHop is an e-commerce platform which serves as a curated marketplace for natural, artisanal and home-grown foods and wellness products. It is a place for food and wellness entrepreneurs to showcase their products and stories and for customers to discover and explore new and exciting brands” – Hmmm now that’s interesting. I was looking forward to that.

ShopHop was started by Anirban Poddar with the long term goal to become the ‘go-to’ platform for food & wellness entrepreneurs to showcase what they do and for consumers to discover exciting new foods and products they will love.  To elaborate on the current business development model, all ShopHop products adhere to one or all of the following three broad criteria:

Box‘Natural’ products include organic OR sustainably produced OR with natural ingredients only and without any use of artificial additives and preservatives.

Artisanal‘ products spanning across ethnic, gourmet and hard to find foods that are made in unique ways and are handpicked by ShopHop’s sourcing team to ensure the highest quality products, that not only give you the best taste but also give you an entirely new experience. Last but not least – each of the brands under ShopHop has a fascinating story that adds to the flavour of the product – with unique methods of production.

‘Homegrown’ products are handmade by budding chefs and artisans in kitchens across the country or made farm-fresh and naturally produced on Indian soil

FudgeThe Taste Box for August had the samples from Gourmet treats by Chef Ishjot Singh Suri, oh! Fudge by Prateek Vaid and Jayesh Mirchandani, Teasage by Akash Takwani, Bombay Barons by Mihir Agarwal and Gauri Gandhi.

First let’s start with the samples from oh! Fudge. Since I am trying to cut off my sugar intake, I just had one spoons of each and shared with my colleagues in office. Going by their “oohhs and aahhs” one could make out that they loved them. In no time the bowls were clean.

From Gourmet Treats both Honey nut crunch almonds and Zesty Tandoori cashews were awesome! You could not have just one. I had to force myself to stop finishing them all in one go.

cashewsThe Pop Mak roasted makhanas from Bombay Barons were “Dairy free”,”No transfat”,”No cholesterol”,”Gluten free” ; this is  declared on the front of the packet. Those who are super conscious about what they eat ; this is the perfect snack. Light yet filling. The simple flavors totally worked for me.

Last but not in any way the least are the teas from Teasage. Being tea lovers, both my  husband and me, we love when anyone gets us teas of different sorts. Here we got 3 samples – Kashmiri Kahwa , Hibiscus Red tea and Soothing Chamomile tea. I loved all the 3 teas but I found the Chamomile tea the best. In our home, we have a cup of black tea or green tea before going to bed at night. The Chamomile tea is my new favorite for the before dinner cuppa now!

MakhanaThe idea behind the “Taste Case” is to showcase their products. The sample boxes differs every month and contains different products and different brands. These sample boxes allow customers to discover amazing new brands every month and involve themselves in a community of likeminded food lovers. As an upcoming brand, ShopHop aims to push the excitement and joy that comes with tasting/trying interesting new products out to customers.

The Taste Case aims to spice up the food discovery in Mumbai in a very convenient and enjoyable way.

Here’s wishing ShopHop all the very best.
