Bloggers Meet at Cafe Pico, Mumbai

[Rated: 3.5/5]

cafe PicoCafe Pico – Phoenix Market City (Kurla), is one amongst seven Pico outlets in Mumbai. It is setup as a small, cozy World cuisine cafe that opened its heart to a crowd of bloggers on the 29th of November, 2012. Nestled on the first floor of the sprawling, up-coming mall, Cafe Pico surprised with its food and more than made up for its loud, modern decor.

Cafe Pico is managed by Nilgai Foods, a young and innovative company launched by two well travelled and Europe educated first time entrepreneurs. The concept of the company is to provide fresh, healthy, in house foods with strict control over back end produce and processes. All food ingredients are managed by the company in-house including meat cuts, jams, cheese, sauces, breads and bakery. The concept flows very well to the table with variety of interesting options and unique blends on offer. One can not only enjoy food off the menu, but can pick up bottled/packed jams, cheese and sauces for home.

The event on the 29th Nov was to launch its Facebook App – Club Pico, (https://www.facebook.com/#!/CafePicoAtPhoenixMarketCity), that allows its followers to share experiences, comments, pictures and get rewarded with points that may be redeemed at the cafe. The event was patchy at best, but the staff was prompt with food and drinks –  something that kept the foodies interested.

Led by Corporate Chef Nicole – who has worked with Gordon Ramsay at the Savoy Grill, London, the best part of the experience was the team’s passion for food. Chef Nicole’s dishes were selected well, never over done or over spiced and sincerely global in their feel. The dish of the day was Spicy Lamb Patty (240), which was succulent and well cooked, though the All American Mini Burgers (290) could do with fresh buns. The main course was well presented, tastefully assembled and adequately portioned. The Menu spread has carefully provided enough options for all palettes, but Non-Veg scores over the Veg in quality.

The Cafe offers a buffet spread over the weekend, with beer and wine as part of the package. A Non-Veg Buffet will set you back by 1,200 while a Veg will burn 1,000 (taxes extra).

A visit to the cafe for a good change is a positive, though a special trip is arduous and time consuming – blame the mall and not the cafe. If you are shopping and tired lugging your girlfriend’s bags, stop by the cafe and enjoy the menu. It is priced well and will be a breadth of fresh air.
