Situated inside Morjim, a village which used to be dominated by Hindu Goan families but now overrun with Russians, is a happy looking shack serving traditional Goan food, and now anything the Russians may fancy (yes, including the Russian Salad). I call it happy because the food is always fresh and good medeira wine is available at Rs 300 a bot.
Since it is close to the place I was staying I ventured there on day one itself, and decided to start with salads – a bad idea indeed because while the salads were all edible, the Caesar’s salad was cooked, and the Greek salad had no connection to the ancient civilization. The good stuff is the local food – freshly made Prawn Xacuti (Rs 90), Kingfish Curry (Rs 90), Pao and rice – all of which hit the spot very nicely.
The restaurant can also prepare fancier seafood on a day’s notice. So, on day two, we have some great crab tandoori. It has meaty claws, and was grilled to perfection. For those missing the taste of home, the restaurant does a pretty competent tandoori chicken too (Rs 220).
