We meet a lot of people in our normal course of the day. But it is rarely that we meet people who have risen against all odds to create something inspiring. Since we all seek happy endings in life, it is truly inspirational to talk to someone who is determined to do so. And I must say, after a half-an-hour talk with Chayaa Nanjappa, who could find some time for me in her break-neck busy routine, I felt elevated and educated.
Without further ado, let me narrate her story. Chayaa was born to an educational family in the heart of Coorg and lived a sheltered idyllic life…..Due to some unfortunate circumstances in her life, she had to relocate to Bangalore in her late twenties and start a career for herself, the first time in her life, in the hospitality sector. However when life dealt another blow to her, she decided to do something on her own and being a proud Kodavathi (from Coorg) that she is, she decided that it shall be something related to her hometown and honey seemed to be a natural choice. The word Nectar Fresh, she says spontaneously came to her mind.
Nectar Fresh unit was set up at Bangalore in 2007 but due to unavoidable reasons, it had to be shifted to Mysore. At this time, everyone around her was apprehensive about her ability to take on the daunting marketing and logistics aspects, Chayaa with her never say die attitude, passion and energy was not deterred. Today, the brand is one of the largest bulk suppliers & packers of quality honey in India. She has also diversified into other products too. With a partner who is as passionate as she is, the brand is poised for a major presence in the export market.
But she remains restless, and wants to do much much more. She is committed to helping other women entrepreneurs who are rooted in the produce of the land they have grown up in. And luckily for us, she wants to start a chain of restaurants serving authentic Coorg cuisine. The first one is on the verge of being set up in Mysore and the second one – this is what I am most excited about – is going to open in Gurgaon shortly.
I am sure there is a lot more news yet to come from Chayaa. And her honey has miles to go…….
