Like anyone else I am too intrigued and fascinated by the era in 1920’s when alcohol was prohibited, live bands were the order of the day (oops night) and the gentlemen dress code was given its due respect. Dirty Martini Speakeasy, a new bar at Olive Mehrauli has recreated that same magic to live that dream. Performers singing, live piano and playing trumpet sets the tone at the bar. Decor is minimalistic and done with care.

Wiki: A speakeasy  is an establishment that illegally sells alcoholic beverages. Such establishments came into prominence in the US during the period known as Prohibition (1920–1933, longer in some states). During this time, the sale, manufacture, and transportation (bootlegging) of alcoholic beverages was illegal throughout the United States.

I attended the launch party of Dirty Martini Speakeasy where we were given a back door entry on disclosing the passcode to remind of those prohibited times. Most men and women were draped accordingly. Beer was being served wrapped in a brown paper and the three martini’s  I had – Camino spicy Chilli (In Camino Tequila), Martinez (in Bombay Sapphire) and Jamine Martini (Grey Goose infused with Jasmine tea) were addictive. Pork belly was lip smacking followed with some interesting Hors d’oeuvre.

The launch party was a success and I would love to go back with friends. So what if I wasn’t even born in that era, I can still live through it.
