On our latest foodie trail Sumit and I visited Ignis Kitchen and bar at Connaught Place (Rajeev chowk for some). This three year old restaurant has an old world charm and offers multi-cuisine in its 84 covers.

The lunch time on a Saturday was fully packed and we were lucky to get seats. Music is nice and isn’t very loud enabling us to enjoy a good chat. To start with my flaming Vodka-Kahlua shooter (Flat 45) was finished without dousing the fire, while Sumit casually sipped on his draft beer. The day long happy hour (12-8pm) is an enough motivator to order more.

The non-veg mezze platter consisting of Chicken Skewers, Babaganoush, Hummus and Pita bread was light and made well. Given the ongoing Sizzler festival (till 16th Dec’12) the main course choice was clear. The Munich Platter (399) has option between  is served with French fries and grilled vegetables. We requested a piece of both the sausages and Ignis obliged. These big sausages were as good as they could get, French fries were crisp, and all vegetables grilled well. The restaurant tried to experiment with Kasundi (Bangali Mustard) and mixed it with cream making it taste anything but mustard. The punch and flavours of Mustard went completely missing in the innovation.

Fisherman’s Bounty (399) was the next sizzler with grilled fish, lemon butter sauce and sautéed vegetables. In this sizzler few fish pieces were over cooked destroying the flakiness of the fish while the others were perfectly cooked. Such instances are normal and happen at a commercial kitchen where either the different batches of the fish are used or cooking timing differs for various reasons. Such serving is normally replaced.

We ended the meal with an excellent Parsi Kulfi which is result of continuously stirred milk boiled for long.

Overall it is a nice place to catch up with friends and family.
