The elegant and chic interiors of Zaffran, a new 60-cover Indian fine dine restaurant welcomed us at the upcoming Star Mall. Enough leg room and soothing music in the back ground set the tone of our evening.

Kebabs started flowing in with their Non Veg and Veg platter (450/350) of which non-vegetarian platter was a mouthful. Mutton Seekh, Fish Tikka, Chicken Afghani and Chicken Malai and Chicken Tikka, all were cooked to perfection. But Veg platter completely disappointed us. Veg Seekhs were dry, Aloo Bharwaan was thick and under-cooked and Panner Tikka as usual. Tandoori Broccoli could have been better if it was a tad undercooked and left a bite.

The main course was tastefully presented. Gobhi Dum (225) and Meat (425) in beautiful Martbaan grabbed eyeballs. Wish the meat was cooked well too. Excellent gravy but hard meat. Dal Makhani was nice but one thing which is strongly recommended is Paneer Kundan Kalian (225). The thick kaju paste without being overly sweet and Kasuri methi went well with the Khasta Roti (35). Sindhi Mutton Biryani (375) is a meal enough for two in itself and amongst the few better ‘biryanis’ in Gurgaon.

We ended the meal with Phirni and in-house soft and delicious gulab-jamun (95 each). Food is inconsistent with shaded of more good than bad. In an almost empty restaurant we would have loved to get a little faster service though.
