Ingredients:

Chicken,  500gms

Onions , 2 sliced thinly

Coconut, 1/4 cup grated

Poppy seeds, 3 tbsp

Salt, to taste

Red chilly powder, to taste

Turmeric, ¼  tbsp

Coriander powder, , 2 tbsp

Garam masala, 3/4 tbsp

Cumin powder,  ½ tbsp

Pepper powder, ½ tbsp

Ginger garlic paste, 1tbsp

Oil, 2bsp

Water

Method:

Make a paste of coconut and poppy seeds with a little water. Keep aside.

Take a kadhai ,add oil and sauté onions till golden brown. Now add the ginger garlic paste and sauté on low flame so that it doesn’t burn. Increase the flame to high and add chicken pieces and fry till the chicken changes the colour. Add salt, turmeric , coriander powder and coconut poppy seeds paste. Mix and continuously stir on low flame so that the coconut doesn’t stick to the kadhai. Sprinkle with some water, if required. When the paste is well fried, add red chili powder, pepper powder, cumin powder, garam masala powder and mix. Finally add about a quarter cup of water. Cover and cook on medium flame till chicken is cooked and gravy thickens up. Serve hot with rice or rotis.

This is one of my favourite chicken preparation and i often try it at home with certain variations though. i actually took my recipe from Goldbrick’s chef who adviced that the garam masala should be powdered and tied in am muslin cloth and the cloth dipped in warm water from over 10 mins. i have tried this one with garam masala directly added to spices mixture and also the other way round. the chef’s option turns out to be more subtle. thought will share the same here.
