Sector 29 never ceases to excite foodies in the city. Mamagoto, a pan Asian restaurant from Delhi, recently set up their latest outlet in the crowded but competitive market of Gurgaon. With the café like bright and cheerful interiors and soothing retro music, we were keen to try on their food.
The mocktails – Kiwi Mint Collin and Watermelon beach (175 each) were nice but overtly sweet for my palate but at the same time enjoyed by my wife with a sweet tooth. It was followed by a large bowl of Rock Shrimp Tempura (365) accompanied with chilli mayo, and Chicken and water chestnut salad (285). Shrimps were fresh and servings huge, but the star dish was the salad. Each bite was a mouthful – aromatic, chunky and flavorful with fragrance and flavors coming from Kaffir lime, Galanjal and Lemongrass. However, the Chinese Dour & Pepper (195) soup was a disaster. As promised, it was spicy but I couldn’t get any taste apart from soya, which was liberally used.
Lamb chops (1195) were marinated in Korean spices and cooked in Robata grill (Japanese style of cooking using coal). The New Zealand lamb chops were succulent, tender and perfectly cooked inside with the skin indeed taut and crispy. The creamy Penang Curry (475) was served in a huge bowl and is sufficient for two if accompanied with few starters. We enjoyed the Cappuccino Cheese cake (265) which ended our meal.
Since these are the initial days for Mamagoto, service was attentive but they missed to change the dirty plates between the dishes. Given the monsoon time, the sweat from chilled glasses dirtied the table and coasters were missed. It is a nice little place with all ingredients of success. They just need to be reworked to create a magic.
