As a working couple, there aren’t many food options when inviting friends over for dinner. Either waste the weekend on planning and cooking, or order food from the delivery joints which has neither taste nor character. Not anymore. Finally help is at hand by ordering the meal through ‘Entertain at home’ which promises a fresh and home cooked meal at a price much affordable than a restaurant.
A concept started by Hema B Watchmaker (co-author of Nita Mehtas Taste of Gujarat) and her daughter-in-law Jyoti Narang Watchmaker. Instead of kitchen politics, they jointly launched this venture to provide homemade and fresh food from their kitchen.
Since there is no place in Gurgaon where one can order Parsi cuisine except the newly opened ‘Entertain at home’, it was my natural choice. Moreover it was the litmus test. If they can prepare Parsi food well, other cuisines that they offer – North Indian, South Indian, Chinese, Maharashtrian and limited Italian shouldn’t be too difficult. I ordered for Patra, Patraani Macchi, Dhunsuk, Salli Boti, and Rice along with Gatta Curry to get a flavor of their other cuisine as well.
The order arrived just in time (15min delay is acceptable) and neatly packed plastic containers with name label on top. Without waiting I ventured into Patraani Macchi as it can’t be reheated. Those three yummy morsels of pomfret took me to a different world. Soft, juicy and freshly steamed fish marinated in coriander, mint, coconut and green chilly was a treat. I could have finished my meal with just the marination paste, but there was more in the offing.
Salli Boti (280), came in small container which would be enough for two if accompanied with other dishes. While the boti(meat) was well cooked, salli was not what it should be. Salli typically is thin matchstick sized fried potato wedges, whereas we were served potato chips cut in the same fashion. The dish was still wiped clean in no time with the help of my friend, Sumit.
Patra (100; serves 4) had distinct flavor of white sesame seeds and accompanying chutney was tangy, Dhansak (250; serves 4) had a thick consistency with a mild jiggery flavor and Rice (200; serves 4) had lots of khada masala and the aroma coming out was over whelming. Never had I experienced such flavors when I ordered from other commercial establishments. However though the packaging mentioned brown rice, they weren’t.
Lastly Gatta Curry (180; serves 4) wasn neither too soft and nor too hard. Very few get the texture so right. Served in mildly spicy and thin curry, it was another dish presented in the manner it deserves.
This is the food which is made with love and care. When not in the mood to cook myself, this is the food I would like my kids to eat, and obviously this is the food I would like to my esteemed guests to enjoy.
