Either Gurgaon has good swanky outlets, or take away joints. One always misses those small family run outlets which serves great unpretentious food at honest prices where one doesn’t mind repeat visits.

I-Spice, a small 30-seater Chinese and Thai restaurant, is one of those trying to fill the void. ‘Fresh ingredients and quick home delivery service is encouraging guests to keep ordering from our place’, says Saarthak Sethi, Partner.

Starting with Thai Style Chicken Satay (250; a light, flavourful and aromatic dish) served with nice and crunchy peanut sauce, Mushroom Duplex (160; an interesting stuffed mushroom starter) and Chilly Fish Dry (290) we were a happy lot for choosing to come to I-Spice. Unlike many places which reduce the chilly to cater to wider audience, here chilly fish was really hot.

Tom Yum Soup (90) however, was a disaster. It was both spicy and sour but it wasn’t as fragrant. The lemon grass and Kaffir lime aromas were completely missing. Fortunately the restaurant made it up with Prawn in Thai Green Curry (410). Not too thick, not too creamy and with well cooked Prawn, it is the closest to the authentic, one can get in Gurgaon. A little spicier and it would have been a perfect 5/5 dish.

Though service needs improvement, but such small outlets that serve soft drinks at MRP and provide a VFM meal to its patrons are a welcome addition to Gurgaon’s food scene.
