Indian Grill Room, Gurgaon
[Rated: 4.0/5]
The huge interiors, spread over 20,000 sq. ft, at the newly opened Indian Grill Room had me at an awe with its beautiful waiting area, covered dining hall, three live and interactive kitchens, water bodies, personal dining room (PDR), small lawn and three Gazebos. Though it may a little too soon before it sees its waiting area used with over 200 seats waiting to be grabbed. The Sufi and soft music playing in the background went with the décor and further accentuated the royal ambiance.
The concept is reminiscent of The Great Kebab Factory serving varieties of Indian kebabs with dinner, except that this one is more grandeur and still cheaper. Even the main course is served on the table which in Kebab Factory is a self-service buffet. Indian Grill Room also allows guests to go for an ala-carte menu if they are in mood for quick drinks.
Indian Grill Room serves 5-6 varieties each of veg and non-veg kebabs selected from all corners of India, followed with Mutton/veg Biryani, Paneer/Chicken dish, Raita, choice of roti, and four types of desserts. “The menu will change every month with only Galaouti Kebab as the common dish” says the owner, Kamal Khattar.
The kebabs were served along with beautifully made mint chutney, pineapple chutney and peanut chutney. I liked the melting Gosht Gilawat (Galaouti), texture of Galinha Cafreal (a Goan speciality) and loved the vegetarian kebabs for a change. Surkha Tawa Paneer and Bhutte Ke Kebab were notable. I had Uarli Roast for the first time and enjoyed the soft roasted aloo and crisp bite of urad dal. Tabak Maaz (a Kashmiri specialty of fried lamb ribs) and Zafrani Jhinga (Prawns) weren’t in the same league though. Tabak Maaz was low on seasoning and Prawns were a hue overcooked. Do not miss the Gulab ki Kheer if it is still in the menu; wonderful kheer sweetened with Gulukand, an Indian Grill Room specialty.
The staff is well trained and courteous. I was told that service is kept at a pace as to let everyone enjoy what is there on the plate. I still feel it was a little slow, especially for the mocktails that we ordered. The pricing is competitive for the ambience and food and had it included some drinks like Chaach which goes well with kebab, it would have sweetened the deal further. It certainly deserves a visit.
