As we entered the mostly unoccupied Ninex Mall, the inviting bright and cheerful interiors, made this 42-seater cafe look like an oasis in a desert. A thought-through little area for kids and games and books for all age groups, with space between seating is a welcome change in the town where seat turnover is given a priority over guests comfort. The food menu also includes Mediterranean but we stuck to the Italian.

Bel Cibo means ‘good food’ and we could feel it right from the word go. The simple Chicken Pepper soup (95) was just there to increase the appetite. Open Tuna Melt Sandwich (250) done in a light bread accompanied with fresh coleslaw, and the Pesto sauce based Grilled Vegetable Pizza (255) were both interesting. A common Pesto sauce based pizza is healthier than the tomato base but is rarely available in Gurgaon. However, little more variety of topping in the grilled pizza would be appreciated.

Ravioli Di Magro (275); ravioli with ricotta cheese and spinach filling was just as thin and al-dente as it should be. The best dish was still to come. I normally don’t like the Grilled chicken with Rosemary sauce (295). Not many know how to grill well, and the gravy is made more like Indian curry. Not here. Well grilled chicken with light and creamy mashed potatoes with a perfectly cooked sauce makes one wonder why others can’t immaculately copy this otherwise simple dish.

We ended the meal with Semifreddo (135), an Italian mousse textured dessert meaning ‘half cold’. The caramel texture topped dessert with chocolate powder and coffee at the bottom was nice but needed some more time to rest. We wanted to try Creme Brulee but manager advised that it was still fresh and hence not properly set. I am happy as long as somebody doesn’t serve me the dish which isn’t ready to be on the table.

Service which seemed to be personalised lost touch as guests increased. Since my friend recently had a good service experience there, perhaps it was one of those bad days. Long waiting time for food and cutlery didn’t let us enjoy the ‘Bel Cibo’ as much as we would have liked.
