Give your stress wings, and let it fly away ~ Terri Guellemets. These beautiful lines on the restaurant menu set the tone for our lovely evening at The Oak Tree.
There are few places in Gurgaon offering true International cuisine and even fewer which are unpretentious in what they stand for. The Oak Tree, a relaxed 70-cover fine dine restaurant in the heart of new-Gurgaon is an answer to dreams of every international foodie.
The aptly lit restaurant with soft music in the background encourages quality discussions between friends and family, but the ceiling and the flooring certainly needs a makeover. Our starter, ‘9ine’ (895) is a wholesome platter consisting of nine international quality dips is served with pita bread, spring rolls, falafel, breadsticks and Greek salad. It is a must try along with the order from its impressive bar.
Wood-fired Alle Verdura Pizza (395), a fresh grilled Mediterranean greens and vegetable pizza is absolutely the best we had in Gurgaon. Topped with mushrooms, zucchini, baby corn and bell peppers we just couldn’t stop from over eating. The main course consisted of Vegetable en Papillote(395); a form of cooking where vegetables and rice/couscous are wrapped in paper before baking. Vegetables were well-cooked to retain a bite but a little-less spices would have helped appreciate the wonderful flavors and aromas, which this amazing technique brings out. I missed mustard ketchup with nicely grilled Bratwurst Sausages (925) which were served along with smooth and soft mashed potatoes and barbeque reduction sauce.
Tiramisu (295), the Italian dessert, had a true International presentation which was neither served neither in a commonly available glass nor in a pastry shape. Just like other dishes, it left an long lasting impression on our taste buds.
In a zeal to serve us well, servers couldn’t stop looking at us, which may be appreciated by some but made us uncomfortable. Also, I do not encourage prefer buying bottled water at a place where potable water is assured and have now got so used to refusing servers when asked. Serving the water from the jug without my consent, felt a little odd especially for a restaurant of its class.
