Dimsum Bros, Ambience Mall, Gurgaon

[Rated: 5/5] The concept at Dimsum Bros. is brilliant and executed with loads of passion, energy and research. It is a 78-seater restaurant offering 37 varieties of steamed, baked, shallow and pan-fried dim sum served with complementary green tea. After each dish I and my companion would look at each other and silently convey the depth of taste we were both experiencing. The beautiful presentation of dim sum in Radish, Bunny (popularly called play boy) and Pear shapes among others made them look even more appealing. There were options galore, but unfortunately our XXXL sized tummies did not allow us to taste them all in spite of wanting to.

Dimsum is a cantonese term for quasi-meal type of Chinese dishes that involves small portions of food usually served at tea time. Since this involves family, the food is shared so that one may enjoy different dishes. For few ‘dumplings’, ‘momos’ and ‘dimsum’ are synonymous meaning wrapper of dough, filled with meat or vegetables, and steamed or fried, whereas ‘dumplings’ or Tibetan ‘momos’are only part of the dishes constituting Dimsum.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Prawns with Wasabi and slivered almonds vanished solely due to my efforts as my partner did not enjoy sea food. I like hard hitting wasabi that affects the sinus more than the mouth, but still enjoyed the mild wasabi that gelled well with the perfectly cooked prawns. We liked the steamed black bean Fish with strands of garlic and the fried Veg Chimichanga Roll. The Chimichanga were crisp on the outside with a soft filling of cheese and veggies that left a mild chili aftertaste which lingered on pleasantly. The Scallop Suimai was the most expensive dish in the menu (Rs700); the garnish of sturgeon caviar enhance the dish and justified the price.I felt, the buttery, slightly salty taste of caviar did well to bring out the flavor of scallop. The Beijing Chicken Dumplings were stuffed with delicately spiced chicken and was vaguely sweet-too; an innovative partner for the Chives and Water Chestnut dumplings.

The Miso soup, Sliced Fish in black bean sauce and Exotic Veggies with Sticky rice were not in the same league as dim sum but good none the less. Dimsum Bros is part of the Moods Hospitality group which also manages Yo! China. It was a pleasure to note the excellent service levels at Dimsum Bros unlike the other chain it manages. The servers were well groomed, well informed and attentive. The very well stocked bar was better than most pubs in the town and served wide varieties of Vodkas especially the freshly infused options; we loved the cucumber vodka.

We wanted to taste the Mango Pudding with Caramel, and Green tea Crème Brulée which to our disappointing weren’t available. I loved every moment at Dimsum Bros, and will be going back. Whenever you do the same, I suggest you go with an empty stomach.
